Welcome to Dellenbaugh Central, the beautiful Web home of Mark, Alison, Ryan, Kyle, and Blake Dellenbaugh. In the summer of 2009, we moved from the Austin, Texas area, where all of our kids were born, to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, where Alison was born. Mark has master's degrees in History and in Library and Information Science, both from The University of Texas at Austin. He spent 10 years in the high-tech world, working mostly in usability and user experience design, and is now a library manager handling digital services at the Arlington Public Library. Alison has a degree in Radio-Television-Film from UT, was a technical writer until Ryan was born, and now does some freelance and creative writing. Ryan, Kyle, & Blake keep busy in their roles as the most adorable children in the world.
Our Latest News
Mark and Alison are celebrating 19 years of marriage on September 14, 2010!
Our house near Austin finally sold in March--hooray!
Blake is 3 and a half, and is still very active! He is very enthusiastic about nearly everything. He is currently in preschool and absolutely loves it. Also loves his class at church!
Kyle is 9 and in the 4th grade. He loves art and animals, especially penguins, & likes taking walks & riding his bike. He has a guitar he's started learning to play.
Ryan is 12 and in the 6th grade. He is still an inventor in training. His long-term goal has been to invent a transporter. He loves math, science, and reading.
We moved nearly 1,300 miles to Florida in January of 2006...and moved back to the Austin area at the end of September the same year. So even though Mark and Alison were in Austin for most of 16 years and owned a house there for 11.5 years, we also moved 3 times in 3.5 years!
Alison won a day in the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in October of 2004. She used it as a bookmobile to give free books to kids in Cedar Park and Austin. We got a surprising amount of news coverage -- here are the Austin Public Library press release, Austin American-Statesman article (might require site membership to read), and News 8 Austin TV story. We had a blast! (And the kids may never stop singing, "Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener!")
In January 2004, we spent a while in Arlington, where Alison participated in a Creative Arts Theatre & School alumni production of the play Free to Be...You and Me (see photos). It was very fun and invigorating for Alison...and probably very tiring for Mark, who got to take care of the kids while Alison was in rehearsals and performances!
Alison's brother Gavin acted in a movie, A Plumm Summer, which is now available on DVD. It's a good family movie. He was previously an extra in shows such as The Practice, ER, Gilmore Girls, CSI, The Guardian, Cold Case, The Drew Carey Show, & The King of Queens, & Deadwood. He also appears in the movies National Treasure, The Princess Diaries 2, & The Aviator, and was a "featured extra" on the show Las Vegas in April 2005--they even made fake $100 bills with his pictures on them for use in the show! What a life! (And he's the one who didn't want to be an actor!) He now has a day job at a film company.
An article Alison wrote about her Wienermobile experience appeared in the January-February 2005 issue of the SCBWI Bulletin, and she had another article in the Fall 2005 issue of Once Upon A Time. She had a short story and a poem in the Summer Shorts anthology from Blooming Tree Press, which came out in September 2006. She recently spent about 15 months writing freelance articles for a magazine targeted to garden center retailers, and also had a short story in the Fall 2008 issue of The First Line literary magazine. She has attended several great writing conferences and workshops in the past few years, and completed a middle grade novel that is currently being being shopped to book publishers.
Alison has a web site devoted to her writing, complete with a blog.
